Joyce Music

Tuesday, May 23 @ 7:30pm
Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis. Map.

Thirtyish, married, teaching English in Italy, James Joyce falls in love with one of his students, and ricochets between adoration and disdain for the girl… “Write it, damn you, write it!” he tells himself, and so he did, in a poetic, allusive story he never published.

This is Giacomo Joyce, now a musical-dramatic work by Stephen Brown. Also on the program: songs to Joyce's words by Brown and Samuel Barber, as well as songs that figure in Ulysses.
